Our firm is proud to support college students who want to further their education. Our goal is to build up our community and help young scholars set themselves up for success.
What Is the Laborde Earles Cancer Scholarship?
Our 2022 Cancer Scholarship invites existing college students to apply for an annual $2,500 award. Laborde Earles Injury Lawyers sponsors the Laborde Earles Cancer Scholarship to invest in the future of young scholars.
To be eligible for the Cancer Scholarship, you must be actively attending or going into college and planning to enter toxicology, medicine, public health, or another related industry. Eligibility requirements are:
- Submitting an essay
- Having a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Being accepted to or actively attending a college, university, or graduate school program
The scholarship winner can use the $2,500 award to pay for college books, tuition, fees, and other expenses. Applicants for this year’s topic had to write a policy brief to local politicians or congress members that describes how people are exposed to carcinogens in the products they use. The essays also addressed the various cancers people can develop after exposure as well as where current policy gaps exist and how increasing regulations helps the public.
Laborde Earles injury was great for me they took care of me very fast and professional. If for any reason I need legal help they will be who I use.
Client2022 Cancer Scholarship Winner: Maximiliano Castillo
This year’s 2022 Cancer Scholarship winner is Maximiliano Castillo. Our team was impressed with Castillo’s approach to the policy brief.
He was inspired to apply for the Cancer Scholarship due to his interest in the potential ways to personally reduce and avoid the risks often that come with the development of different cancers. Castillo recognizes that addressing these causes can go a long way in reducing the number of cancer diagnoses.
I thank God for Digger & David. I don’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t have been for them.
Rick Smith | ClientAbout Maximiliano Castillo
Castillo’s biggest inspiration is his father. His father taught himself English after being born in Texas but growing up in Mexico. His father was in high school when the family moved to the U.S. They were hoping to obtain better education opportunities but found that a language barrier was holding them back.
Over time, Castillo’s father applied himself, went to college, and opened a business that sells food to the U.S. government. The ambition and drive Castillo had in applying for the Laborde Earles Cancer Scholarship is a characteristic that runs in the family.
Scholarship Winner Helps Patients, Nurses While Volunteering at Area Hospital
Castillo volunteers at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, where he helps patients, nurses, and healthcare providers. He works with patients to understand their physical and emotional needs and reaches out to nurses and nursing assistants when they are in pain. He also helps registered nurses (RNs) with medication delivery upon request. Castillo also answers and directs hospital phone calls, sharpening his customer service and communication skills.
Castillo, an integrative health science major, is interested in entering either the field of occupational therapy or physical therapy. Although they are commonly used interchangeably, physical therapy involves more interaction between patients and doctors, which is something Castillo values. He plans to use the Laborde Earles Cancer Scholarship to help pay for his college tuition.
The reassurance from Digger and his staff gave me that renewed hope that it’s going to be okay down the road.
ClientLooking Forward
After graduating from the physical therapy or occupational therapy program with a bachelor’s degree, Castillo plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy. His goals include obtaining a physical therapy assistant certification soon after beginning the program. He aims to integrate himself into the physical therapy environment so he can begin establishing patient trust, working with physical therapists, and entering the workforce.
They treated us like no other people would. Whenever we needed something they were there for us. I put my trust in them and I don’t regret it.
