According to The Advocate, a man driving an SUV allegedly left the scene after striking another vehicle with his own. A deputy at the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office claims that when he arrived at the scene of the reported accident, he saw a dark SUV driving away on the wrong side of the road.
In the arrest report, the officer states the SUV accelerated rapidly into oncoming traffic, forcing two other vehicles out of the way. The deputy pursued the vehicle, which eventually veered into the proper lane.
When the SUV stopped, the motorist got out and allegedly started running away on foot. The officer pursued him into BREC Hartley/Vey Park, according to the police report.
After the man ran into some bushes and fell, the officer was able to approach him and cuff him. Police took the motorist back to the scene of the accident, where the other driver positively identified him.
Officers booked the man into Parish Prison. He is facing charges for resisting an officer, flight from an officer, trespassing, hit and run, obstruction of a public passage, and reckless operation.
Although this particular collision did not cause critical injuries to either party, some accident injuries do not manifest symptoms immediately. In fact, the full extent of car crash injuries is rarely apparent until several days or even weeks following the incident.
In the meantime, the cost of medical bills can add up quickly. If you or someone you love was injured due to another driver’s recklessness, you may be entitled to compensation for healthcare expenses and other damages.

How Can You Recover Compensation Following a Hit and Run Collision?

ClientIf you sustained injuries in a hit and run accident, you may feel as though you have no options for recovering compensation from the liable party; however, that is not necessarily the case. Aside from the fact that police may eventually identify the motorist who fled the scene, there are other ways to recover funds for the costs associated with treating your injuries.
For example, uninsured motorist (UIM) coverage typically applies to hit and run accidents, too. Thus, if you purchased UIM coverage as part of your policy, you may be able to file a claim with your own auto insurance provider for compensation.
Sometimes, homeowner’s insurance also covers extraneous events like hit and run collisions. An auto accident lawyer can review your policy to determine if you have such coverage and if it is worth filing a claim.
