Following a tragic collision in December on LA 20, attorney Digger Earles of Laborde Earles will represent the Hall family as they pursue compensation for the wrongful death of Herman Hall, 78. The firm plans to file a civil lawsuit against former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who stands accused of negligent homicide and other serious charges.
As a leading Lafayette fatal car accident lawyer, Digger Earles is committed to helping the Hall family seek justice and closure during this difficult time.
Leveraging considerable legal experience and resources, the firm aims to hold the responsible party accountable and help the family find some measure of peace after this devastating loss.
In a recent interview with WDSU News, Earles stated, “What a great man. What a loving family. He leaves behind a wife who unfortunately has debilitating injuries from this accident as well.
She was in the car with him. He leaves behind children and grandchildren. He’s a retired soldier – retired law enforcement. Just a wonderful man that left a lifelong legacy behind.”
The Initial Collision
On December 17th, 2024, Herman Hall and his wife were running errands. While driving on LA 20 near Perez Lane, a truck driving ahead of the Halls braked and swerved without warning. The car behind it, a Kia Cadenza, swerved, too, to avoid colliding with an oncoming Dodge Charger that appeared to have jumped lanes.
The Halls, in their Kia Sorento, didn’t have time to get out of the way. As a result, their car took the brunt of the impact as the Charger, allegedly driven by Lacy, collided with their front bumper.
In post-accident reports, Heather Dickerson, the Halls’ daughter, says that her mother reported that their Kia Sorento was totaled.

Laborde Earles injury was great for me they took care of me very fast and professional. If for any reason I need legal help they will be who I use.
ClientFleeing the Scene
The Dodge Charger did not remain at the scene of the accident after the collision. Troopers in pursuit reported that the Charger’s driver drove south on LA 20 without pausing to determine if the Halls were safe.
“I think that tells us a lot about Kyren Lacy,” said Earles in the interview.
The Halls were taken from the scene of the accident to the hospital, where Mrs. Hall received treatment for a broken sternum and seven broken ribs. Herman Hall died while receiving treatment for his injuries.

I thank God for Digger & David. I don’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t have been for them.
Rick Smith | ClientThe Lafourche Paris 17th Judicial Court Released a Warrant for Kyren Lacy’s Arrest
Troopers collaborated with LSP detectives to identify Kyren Lacy, 24, as the driver behind the wheel of the Dodge Charger. After compiling statements from witnesses and evidence at the scratch site, officers obtained an arrest warrant from the Lafourche Paris 17th Judicial Court. This warrant accused Lacy of the following:
- LA RS 14:32 negligent homicide
- LA RS 14:100 felony hit and run
- LA RS 14:99 reckless operation of a vehicle
Officers held off on filing their warrant and sharing Lacy’s name with the Hall family after the collision. When asked about the delay, Earles, who has been involved in several high-profile litigations throughout his career, said that he’s never seen a defendant’s name withheld from the prosecution.
In referring to Lacy, Earles stated, “No one is above the law – not a star athlete, not anyone.” Reports indicate that Lacy turned himself in to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and was released on a $151,000 bail.

The reassurance from Digger and his staff gave me that renewed hope that it’s going to be okay down the road.
ClientA Statement from Lacy
When asked for a statement about his arrest, WDSU reports that Lacy’s representatives said the following:
“We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with the authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.
“We recognize the concern and questions that may arise from these recent allegations. To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly.
“Out of respect [for] the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time.”

They treated us like no other people would. Whenever we needed something they were there for us. I put my trust in them and I don’t regret it.
ClientRemembering Herman Hall With the Hall Family
In the wake of this fatal collision, the Hall family remembers Herman, who passed after the accident under the care of Louisiana doctors. Hall served two tours in Vietnam before returning to the United States and the Pelican State to work in customs, a position he held for 36 years.
Hall’s daughter reports that in life, he loved to ride his bike over 28 miles daily and spend several hours in his garden. She recalls that he was a fantastic storyteller who loved his family and friends dearly.
When asked about Hall’s life, Earles said, “Mr. Herman spent his life fighting for justice. He would want someone fighting for him.” In a separate statement, Dickerson seconds this idea, saying that she hopes that the Louisiana judicial system will offer her family the justice they need to find closure after this life-changing accident.
