An Alexandria man was killed in a five-vehicle wreck that involved two 18-wheelers. According to KALB, the accident occurred on Interstate 10 at around 5:30 p.m. when one of the truck drivers failed to slow down in congested traffic.
That truck rear-ended a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by 70-year-old Gerald Theriot. The Sierra was pushed off the road, but the tractor-trailer continued forward and collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Ronald Allen, 26. Allen’s Impala subsequently crashed into another 18-wheeler. His vehicle was crushed between the two trucks, and all three vehicles were engulfed in flames. Allen was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
This accident is a tragic reminder that collisions with semi-trucks often result in severe injuries and death. Although the exact cause of this crash has not yet been disclosed, driver error was most likely a contributing factor.

Laborde Earles injury was great for me they took care of me very fast and professional. If for any reason I need legal help they will be who I use.
ClientThis statistic was published by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. 18-wheelers weigh up to 30 times more than passenger cars, so it should come as no surprise that passenger vehicle occupants tend to suffer the worst of the impact in the event of a collision. Only 16 percent of truck accident fatalities in 2015 were truck occupants.
- More than 3,800 people died in large truck accidents in 2015.
In 2015, approximately 3,852 people lost their lives in large truck wrecks. That was the highest death toll since 2008.
- Commercial truckers are allowed to drive for up to 11 hours in a single stretch.
I thank God for Digger & David. I don’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t have been for them.
Rick Smith | ClientNo driver is immune to fatigue – especially after 11 hours behind the wheel. Although truckers must abide by the Hours of Service Regulations, it is entirely possible for a trucker to follow these rules and still cause a fatigue-related collision. You can read the full list of Hours of Service Regulations on the website of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
There are countless factors that can contribute to 18-wheeler crashes, but driver error is behind the vast majority of these collisions. If you were injured or lost a loved one due to a negligent truck driver, turn to Laborde Earles Injury Lawyers.
The reassurance from Digger and his staff gave me that renewed hope that it’s going to be okay down the road.
