As the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season approaches, forecasters are predicting another active few months for tropical storm development. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is calling for an above-normal season, potentially seeing between 17-25 named storms form, starting with Alberto and ending with William.

If your property suffers due to hurricanes or tropical storms this year, a Louisiana hurricane damage lawyer can help you file a claim. They know how to assess your property damage, document your losses, and submit a claim. They can also help if an insurance company denies or attempts to undervalue your claim.

Brace Yourself: NOAA Forecasts a Busy 2024 Hurricane Season

If you live along the Atlantic or Gulf coasts, it’s time to ensure your hurricane preparedness plan is in place. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its 2024 Atlantic hurricane season outlook, predicting above-normal storm activity in the coming months.

Forecasters at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center estimate a high 85% chance that the 2024 season will be more active than an average year. Their outlook calls for 17 to 25 named storms forming, with 8 to 13 of those strengthening into hurricanes packing maximum wind speeds of 74 mph or higher.

Major Hurricanes Predicted for 2024

Even more concerning is the expected number of major hurricanes – storms reaching Category 3 intensity or higher with winds over 111 mph. NOAA predicts a likely range of four to seven of these devastating systems during the 2024 Atlantic season, which officially runs from June 1 through November 30.

Several climatic factors are lining up to create ripe conditions for increased storm development and intensification across the Atlantic basin this year. Warmer-than-average ocean temperatures, the anticipated formation of a La Niña climate pattern, reduced wind shear, and a potentially enhanced West African monsoon all favor an energetic hurricane season.

While forecasting the overall activity levels, NOAA does not speculate on where storms may make landfall. However, coastal residents from Texas to Maine should prepare for the possibility of one or more high-impact hurricane strikes over the next six months. NOAA and its partner agencies provide ample resources to help communities get ready.

Get Ready to Ride Out the Storm: Previewing the 2024 Hurricane Name List

When hurricanes brew in the Atlantic Basin, an official list of rotating names is used to identify and track these powerful systems as they move across the ocean. Developed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the 2024 list of Atlantic hurricane names features a total of 21 alternating male and female monikers, beginning with Alberto and ending with Williams.

The History of Naming Hurricanes

The naming of tropical storms and hurricanes began over 200 years ago as a way to easily differentiate between multiple systems. What started as referring to storms by the places they struck or the name of a saint has evolved into the standardized lists we use today, with any particularly destructive storms having their names retired out of respect for the lives lost.

2024 Hurricane Name List

As you monitor this season’s forecasts, it’s important to be prepared should one of the storms on the 2024 list threaten your area. From Alberto to William, here are the Atlantic hurricane names that meteorologists will be calling out in the days and weeks ahead:

  • Alberto
  • Beryl

How a Hurricane Damage Lawyer Can Help After the Storm

While having your hurricane preparedness plan in place is crucial, the aftermath of a major storm can be just as challenging to navigate. If your home or business suffered significant damage from one of this season’s hurricanes, you may need to file an insurance claim and get prepared for potential hurdles along the way.

Insurance companies are notorious for denying claims or offering lowball settlements that don’t come close to covering the full cost of repairs and replacements needed. This is where hiring an experienced hurricane damage lawyer can make a major difference.

Here are some of the key ways a Louisiana insurance claims lawyer can advocate for you:

Claim Filing Guidance

An attorney can make sure you properly document and submit your claim, increasing the chances of approval. They understand the strict evidence requirements and deadlines.

Denial Appeals

If your claim is denied outright or you feel the settlement offer is unfairly low, a lawyer can build a strong appeal case and present the evidence insurers cannot ignore.

Negotiation

Hurricane lawyers deal with insurance companies every day. They know the tactics used and can effectively negotiate for the full payout you deserve based on your policy coverage.

Representation

Should your case need to go to the court or mediation stage, a skilled litigator will make all the legal arguments and represent your best interests.

Don’t try to battle the insurance giants alone after hurricane damage. Having an experienced legal advocate on your side from the start provides peace of mind and increases the likelihood of a successful, maximized claim outcome.

The reassurance from Digger and his staff gave me that renewed hope that it’s going to be okay down the road.
