The procedure promises to be life-changing for people who need knee replacement surgery. However, those affected by recent knee replacement recalls might have as much pain as they had before surgery.
An Increase in Knee Replacement Recalls Means More Could Qualify for Damages
More and more manufacturers are announcing recalls for failed knee replacement implants. In the past few years, the following medical device makers issued recalls saying that their joint replacement products could be faulty:
- Stryker
- Zimmer Biomet
- Exactech
- DePuy
- B. Braun
- Arthrex
Many of these companies make hip, ankle, and shoulder replacement implants, some of which were recalled. What these recalls have in common is the devices did not end up working as intended due to flaws in design, manufacturing, storage, or another issue. Every recall and product liability case is different, though. The Exactech case is one of the most recent knee replacement lawsuits to make the news. The company said thousands of its knee, ankle, and hip replacement devices could have defects because of a packaging problem. A polyethylene component oxidized in these devices, making them fragile and likely to fail. Now, Exactech Polyethylene Orthopedic Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 3044 allows plaintiffs to seek compensation.
